The Annapurna region is situated in the north of central Nepal. It is one of the world’s best trekking trails as surveyed by Modern Maturity (USA). Annapurna region passes through spectacular diversity at its finest. Annapurna literally means” full of food”. Annapurna region has been protected by (ACAP) Annapurna Conservation Area Project established in 1986 by the late king Mahendra trust for Nature conservation. Annapurna region has been a naturalist’s paradise.
Rare snow leopards and blue sheep in the upper sub alpine and multi color Impeyan, Kokla, blood Pheasant, butterflies and insects are the rare species found here. The Annapurna conservation area has 100 varieties of orchids and some of richest temperate Rhododendron, oak and beech forest. The highlights of this region are Annapurna peaks, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Kali Gandaki river, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli , Gangapurna, Annapurna south and Tilicho lake (4949m) world’s highest lake situated in Manang district of this region and the world’s deepest George Kali Gandaki. The most prominent ethnic group of this region is Gurungs and thakalis.
Some of the popular treks of the Annapurna region are Annapurna circuit trek, Jhomsom – Muktinath trek, Annapurna sanctuary trek, Annapurna Sunrise trek and the Royal trek (short and enjoyable trek), Upper Mustang, Sikles, Dhaulagiri and Pokhara. Upper Mustang falls in the rain shadow area so it can be visited during the rainy season also. The spring and autumn are best preferred to trek this region.
Pokhara a beautiful city in the west of Nepal is the starting or the ending point of the Annapurna region trek. Pokhara is easily accessible by bus in 6 hours / half an hour by air.
